ESR
Also known as Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate
What it is
Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate measures how quickly red blood cells settle in a test tube over an hour, a simple physical test that rises when inflammatory proteins in the blood are elevated.
Why it matters
ESR is one of the oldest and broadest inflammation markers still in routine use, and like hs-CRP, it doesn't point to one specific cause; it can rise with infection, autoimmune activity, or other systemic inflammatory processes. It's most meaningfully interpreted alongside hs-CRP and the rest of Source's inflammatory and autoimmune markers rather than in isolation.
ESR is one of the markers in Zaro's Source panel and every tier above it.
