Zinc
What it is
Zinc is a trace mineral involved in immune function, wound healing, and hundreds of enzymatic reactions throughout the body.
Why it matters
Zinc deficiency is more common than often assumed, particularly in people with restrictive diets, high alcohol intake, or certain gastrointestinal conditions that limit absorption. It plays a meaningful role in immune resilience, which is part of why low zinc has been studied in connection with frequent infections, and it's also relevant to skin health and taste and smell function. As with magnesium, it's a low-cost, generally correctable finding when it does come back low.
Zinc is one of the markers in Zaro's Signal panel and every tier above it.
