hs-CRP
Also known as High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein
What it is
High-sensitivity C-reactive protein measures low-grade, systemic inflammation circulating in your blood, at concentrations too subtle for a standard CRP test used to detect acute infection to pick up.
Why it matters
Chronic low-grade inflammation is now understood to play a role in the development of atherosclerosis itself, not just as a byproduct of it. hs-CRP is one of the few inflammatory markers with enough outcomes research behind it to be incorporated into cardiovascular risk calculators alongside cholesterol and blood pressure. An elevated result doesn't point to one specific cause; it can reflect anything from excess visceral fat to poor sleep to an undiagnosed inflammatory condition, which is exactly why it's most useful read alongside the rest of a panel rather than in isolation.
hs-CRP is one of the markers in Zaro's Surface panel and every tier above it.
