CBC with Differential
Also known as Complete Blood Count
What it is
A Complete Blood Count with Differential measures the number, size, and type of cells circulating in your blood, including red blood cells, five types of white blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelets, 22 values in total.
Why it matters
The CBC is one of the most information-dense tests in medicine because red cells, white cells, and platelets each tell a different story. Red cell indices (hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW) are how anemia and its underlying cause, whether iron deficiency, a B12 or folate gap, or something else, are first identified. The white cell differential is a window into immune activity, infection, and inflammation, since different cell types rise or fall depending on what your immune system is responding to. Platelet count reflects your blood's ability to clot normally. It's a standard part of nearly every comprehensive workup precisely because a single abnormal value here can point toward a dozen different next steps.
CBC with Differential is one of the markers in Zaro's Surface panel and every tier above it.
